Here's to You

Here's to those guys.

Here's to the guys who put up with hours of complaining about what jerks guys are while disproving the whole point by simply listening.
Here's to the guys who hold you close when you're hurting and will call the person who hurt you just about anything, even if that person is his friend.
Here's to the guys who you can tell anything and genuinely trust them to keep it to themselves.
Here's to the guys who offer to kick another guy in the nuts for you.
Here's to the guys who listen to you talk for half an hour about how much you love what's-his-face's eyes.
Here's to the guys who don't retaliate when you throw random little things at them.
Here's to the guys who DO retaliate when you smack them with a pillow.
Here's to the guys who tell you what you want to hear, and not just because they know it's what you want to hear.
Here's to the guys who sing "Don't Worry be Happy" to you when you're freaking out over something.
Here's to the guys who sit in Starbucks with you for an hour laughing about fart stories.
Here's to the guys who know when to try to help and when to just say "that sucks" when you're in a sticky situation.
Here's to the guys who run around for 20 minutes creeping up on you during your cross country race.
Here's to the guys who are willing to risk their masculinity just to make you smile.
Here's to the guys who actually pick up their phones.
Here's to the guys who will talk to you for three hours about nothing.
Here's to the guys who listen to you talk about how awesome they are, and why you absolutely can't date them.
Here's to the guys who pretend like you make sense.
Here's to the guys who put up with the music in your car...and your driving.
Here's to the guys who make you laugh when you call them after a disasterous hookup.
Here's to the guys who will leave the flour they just spilled on their pants so you can take a picture for facebook.
Here's to the guys who sit in a car for 45 minutes with your parents so they can come watch you race.
Here's to the guys who dance around like idiots with you.
Here's to the guys who put up with any and all of your girly complaints.
Here's to the guys who help you decipher two sentences you heard that attractive guy in your class say earlier.
Here's to the guys who go to your concert just because you want them to hear one particular song.
Here's to the guys who show up at that concert in combat boots.
Here's to the guys who convince you to try out for the solo, the role, the team, etc.
Here's to the guys who lift your spirits when you don't make it.
Here's to the nice guys; the ones who love you for who you are.

Re-definition

Hello!

Cromy-Crom (the other XC coach) is back from vacation now. He's a bit concerned about me; not because I missed 8:30 practice yesterday, but my (explanation of) why.

You see, what happened was... I fell asleep at 6:45, which isn't a weird time for me to be going to sleep these days. I got up at 9.

Upon hearing this, he got That Look... the one of "fatherly concern". He drilled me about possible reasons why, which I sheepishly answered, promising to go to bed earlier. Not like it would help.

Anyway, I got more sleep last night, due to the fact that I went to bed earlier, when I felt sickly. I slept until noon today, putting me at a good 8-ish hours of sleep if you factor in my hour-long siesta.

While I was running today, I was thinking about the term "rebonjour". I learned this word when I read Words in a French Life by Kristin Espinasse, a book my dad had found at the used bookstore a few months ago and purchased.

In France, if you want to seem even more odd to the French, just say "Hello" one time too many. Les Français don't understand the Anglophone affinity for repeating "Hello" at another point in a twenty-four-hour time frame. The French say "Bonjour" once-- point final.
That said, the Frenchies have come up with a way to regree one another, using the ultrapopular term rebonjour.
~From Words in a French Life, pg 236

I was thinking about it because while Mixtape and I ran our four miles in the woods behind the college near the Gardens, we kept seeing this couple running with their unleashed dogs. I smiled and said "Hello!', and they apologized for their happy pups running up to us and excitedly greeting these sweaty barely-clothed high schoolers, and smiled and waved as they continued their own run. We saw them again a few miles later, and I greeted them, laughing, saying "Hello again!" They replied "Hiya!" and kept running. I wasn't feeling relating to French at that point, but now it strikes me; rebonjour.

Hello again.

Now that I think about it, we say "Hello again" to a lot of things. For many people, each day is a "hello again". As in, "hello again, world!", and then they do the same things they have already done.

I am one of these people right now, with the exception of Random Adventures. My life is in a "hello again" stage right now. I don't like it. I'm prone to periods of Urge-to-Flee, where I can't sit still, can't focus, and generally just want to elsewhere, doing something else with my time. I'm not unhappy with my life, per se, but I'm not entirely content with it, either.

This prompts me to ask: why not change?

When there's an issue in your life, something you aren't satisfied with; why not change it? Change your perspective. Change your interactions with people. Change your relationships. Change your activities. Change your focus, your priorities, your use of your time. It's better than saying "hello again" to whatever it is in your life that isn't giving you a fresh new day, EVERY day.

Elphaba is a brilliant person. She notices things about people and situations, and acts to correct problems. Yet, the boy she liked has been confusing her for a few days. She told him about her feelings a few days after he got a girlfriend, and he promised that, despite being unable to respond well to her confession (since he had a girlfriend and was graduating), the two of them would remain friends.

Recently, he broke up with his girlfriend. The two of them have been talking on FIM for a while, and for awhile, he's been pretty unresponsive. His intial reaction and response in contrast to his more recent emotions and behavior confused Elphaba. She disliked the change in the relationship, and missed his friendship. Finding her bravery, she sent him a message, saying:

"You say that you like me too much to let us not be friends, yet what we have right now isn't a friendship. A friendship isn't having a one-sided conversation or having to struggle to keep a conversation. It isn't awkward and random 'hi, how are you's'. If this relationship is too awkward for you please let me know because right now it isn't a friendship. I'm starting to regret ever telling you THAT I had a crush because I liked our friendship before and it's not the same without it."

After she shared that message with me, I realized something: my whatever with Dumbo is kinda like that recently. It's not a friendship. It's me, trying to hold on to a boy who has nothing to tie him to me, except the thin WHATEVER-this-relationship-is. It's me being pathetic, sending him an email at midnight and rambling about randomness, texting him when I feel like it, and not expecting an answer.

I think it's time to re-define.

Elphaba's on to something, there; that isn't friendship. What is it, then? Is there a word for a partial relationship? (one word. not two ;))

Re-defining, to me, seems like it is figuring out what is going on with your life, figuring out the reasons behind it, and fixing what you can.

I like the idea; I think I may try to re-define my life and relationships. How do I describe my days? Boring. I would like to say they are all worthwhile, fun, or just good. Am I happy? Not particularly. I'd like to be content, even happy. The problem is figuring out what I need to do to achieve that.

I have a pretty good idea what I need to start with, so I'm going to go do that now.

Best wishes!

I WANT OUT OF HERE.

ARGHHHHHH.

Dangit.

I can't tolerate being HERE anymore.

This house is AWFUL when my dad is away. He's off visting friends in other states, which is great, but I miss him. Being here with my mother and my brother only proves what I've known for years; I can't live with her.
She pushes me so easily. With little effort, she goes from kind to furious, and suddenly, she's yelling at me and I'm frustrated and yelling back. Defending myself, but it doesn't help.

So I end up sitting, with my back to her, blasting music and wishing that I couldn't hear her criticisms and her complaints. Her reason for anger is my procrastination, my different methods of work. She's upset because she lost the job she hoped to get, because of the poor words of her sources, the people she thought had a good view of her.

I don't BLAME her for taking her annoyance out on me, but I don't like it. I understand why she's upset, but I don't want to deal with that. She has the right to be annoyed, but she doesn't have to take it out on me.

I'm used to it, though. I am the scapegoat. She and I are complete opposites. It's easy for her to divert her anger onto me. I respond how she wants-- with anger. Until I give in and sit, with my back to her, holding back my harsh words; shaking from the effort.

I want out of this city. I am bored. I am sick of online school. There's nothing fun here, nothing to distract me. My friends feel like they're hundreds of miles away. Everybody is busy with their own thing, even if they're here. I'm trapped, though. I can't escape. I am obligated to stay, for school and cross-country. But I would rather be elsewhere.

I want out of my current situation.

My parents need to get a divorce. It would be DONE if Mother hadn't lost her job. My dad has his own company now-- which is helping. It's giving him the independence he craves, but he needs her support; at least in matters of money. I think that's how it's been for a while. They've stuck together for convenience. If they had a way to choose, they'd choose what is best for all of us. We're all stuck.

I want out of the mindset I've had for a few weeks. I want my sleep cycle back; I go to bed at 2 AM or later most days, and then I lie for hours, willing dreams to come. I can't break the cycle.

I feel terrible for Kitterbee. Her dog (Butterscotch! Molly's buddy!) is having surgery in less than an hour that he may not survive. I know the terrifying feeling of your dog's life hanging in the balance. I went through it two years ago, and yet I have no words of wisdom. All she can do is pray for the best. I'm hoping for the best, too. Butterscotch is so sweet, and doesn't deserve to die.

Worse than that, she found cigarettes in her mom's purse recently. She thought her mom quit a few years ago, after Kitterbee found cigarettes in her purse and freaked out. Her mom is like an adopted mom to "KATAM" and it SUCKS that she's doing something so awful to herself. Kitterbee hid her freak-out well, though; her mom doesn't know that she found the cigarettes. Her dad doesn't know. Kitterbee is lost about what to do; how do you tell your MOTHER that what she's doing is wrong? How do you deal with a parent's poor decisions? [Again, I have no idea.]

Argh, this is completely unhelpful. I need to rant properly. Too bad my rant-people are scattered around; Bingo's in Costa Rica on a mission trip (he SAID he'd be online earlier but wasn't), Flailure just came home from California and is sleeping, Molly's in EUROPE (without internet now), and Elphaba is... not online.

... Back to Online School now. Almost caught up with AFM, sorta. I'm not enjoying this.

*fighting the urge to flee*
Goodness. Somebody get online. Please.

Hawaiian Sweet Rolls

HIHI!

Dumbo finally gave me an answer. Not the one I wanted, but I'm honestly okay with it. It makes sense and I understand that it is the best decision for both of us. I missed him as a friend, so I'm glad things are back to normal(ish) now. Though it makes me sad that if circumstances were a bit different, the answer might have been, too. Can't change it; he's leaving in a day anyway.

Molly, being my twin, got me HAWAIIAN SWEET ROLLS at the grocery store yesterday! She brought them to me this morning. I'm almost done now. I shared... some... O:). They are my version of "crack"; just like Jedi Princess's "crack" is cheddar/sour cream chips. AMAZINGNESS.

My english exam (powerpoint...which was more fail than I wanted it to be due to INTERNET FAILURE because of that storm last night...lightning hit my house and it was very scary and insane and such.) is OVER, and I had a laugh attack near the end of King Toast's because he was demonstrating "sneaking around to find food" and I -laughlaughlaugh-ed. I may have been the only one who couldn't stop laughing... as always. :)

After lunch (where I saw Dumbo/talked to him sorta and got hugs and then a large group of people left campus, not sure if they left "legally" or not but whatever. I had a note to go at 2 and I didn't want to get in trouble so I didn't.) and the COMPLETELY FAIL MATH REVIEW, I signed out, only to discover that my family FORGOT ABOUT ME. So, I went to the guidance office and picked up my MASSIVE MATH TEXTBOOK for the stupid online class I have to take over the summer because of France (<3) and it is BIGGER THAN MY CURRENT MATH BOOK, which is R-O-N-G, WRONG. [ESPECIALLY since this math class is basically three chapters of my current math class...]

Andddd then I sat outside for too long and a dude I haven't talked to in a very long time because he randomly FIMed me once and it was rather creepy of him started talking to me; I started texting people and then Elphaba convinced me to come to the band room, where they were playing various card games.

I really have to wonder, what is UP with band kids and card games? Is it some moth-to-light thing? Elphaba and I listened to songs on her ipod and learned how to swing-dance, sorta. It looks really silly when you don't have a partner, which is why we wanted to learn it. :D

Edward complains that he has two favorite songs right now; I think that's pretty reasonable, since I have about five favorite songs right now. YAY! (He also informs me that I am very ADD and he wrote very nice things in my yearbook on the Pepsi page that I've been trying to convince people to sign on for awhile, but nobody has been awesome enough.)
(Elphaba is partially to blame. Her and Youtube and Pandora. They just keep ADDING to the list!)
  1. "Let Go" by Frou Frou
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x52w8txtiQs
  2. "Fighting for Nothing" by Meg & Dia
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAGlkcJhcKU
  3. "Headlock" by Imogen Heap (AND the video is amazing!)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKZsZkH_MJc
  4. "Die Alone" by Ingrid Michaelson
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9POTasT5umE
  5. Nearly any Imogen Heap or Frou Frou song, basically. Obsession. :) Quite a few Meg & Dia songs as well ("Monster" is about creepers which is basically amazing.)

Elphaba and I are so weird, which is cool... because what we are weird about is something that is rather useful to maintaining sanity. Too bad Dorothy is this brand of weird; it would be easier for her that way. Movie Night time soon, I hope... except I'm SUPER BUSY this weekend.

Flailure ABANDONED ME the other day to go to CALIFORNIA with his dad and fraternaltwin (who I may have to Boy-Chomp, depending on his levels of stupidity) and hopefully distract himself from the boy he likes with fun touristy things. I'll have a LOT to catch him up on when he gets back, which is annoying, but sure makes for interesting conversation.

He's my rant-receiver, but really needs this vacation to sort out his feelings for the whore-boy that he's been pining over. The whore-boy that's been messing with his head and heart for a couple weeks. Poor Flailure... it's gotten really awkward for him. Him and his brother keep making nonsense plans with me for randomness next year, which is awesome, but I realize that I could just go to church on Sundays and see them.

WHY HAS THIS FAILED ME?! Whatever I write *RIGHT HERE* keeps going *poof* and it is VERY ANNOYING. (MOLLY, ARE YOU KILLING IT? OR IS IT JUST THE WEBSITE BEING STUPID?)

TORNADO! ZOMG?!

BEWARE: RANT AHEAD

In case the CAPS LOCK didn't alert you to whom this is; it's ALY! :)

Hihi!

This week's been kinda weird; first with Monday's complete weirdness involving some random creeper-guy hitting on me on fb as well as the other grrr's. Conflict with Rorito was resolved in a good way, which made my day much better.

But now it's Wednesday. I learned something today I would have rather not known.
Just so you know, the way to get somebody to NOT want to know something is NOT to tell them they DON'T want to know it. Because then their curiosity will bug them until they find out and then realize that they, in fact, did not want to know.

(I SHOULD KNOW. THAT HAPPENED TO ME. TODAY.)

Worse, when I find out about something that disturbs me, I am likely to discuss my AHH/GRR (depending on what it is) with people I trust; and then they give me advice. That usually works like this:

Aly: "I LEARNED SOMETHING I DIDN'T WANT TO KNOW TODAY AND IT BOTHERS ME MUCHLY GRRR/AHHH!"
Friendperson: "Uhoh, what's wrong?!?!?!?!"
Aly: "Uhm, it involves people. I shouldn't share. Uhhhh...."
Friendperson: "It always involves people. Your twin?"
Aly: "*tinynod*"
Friendperson: "And..."
Aly: "Yeah, you figure that out."
...
Friendperson: "OH."
Aly: "Right."
Friendperson: "You're right, that is GRRR/AHHH! Any way I can help?"
Aly: "I don't knowwww."
Friendperson: "Okay. 1. CALM DOWN. 2. GO TO YOUR HAPPY PLACE. 3. CALM DOWN MORE. 4. DO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE/ARTISTIC. 5. LET OTHER PEOPLE HANDLE THEIR OWN PROBLEMOS."
Aly: "BUT I SUCK AT THAT!!!!!!!"
Friendperson: "You're completely helpless. Go eat chocolate and STOP SPEAKING IN EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!"

(It actually doesn't end like that but I was getting annoyed typing that way. Whee.)

Conclusion: PEOPLE (not friendperson's. they're pretty awesome, if terrible at giving advice.) ARE STUPID AND I AM EASILY ANNOYED.

Every now and again, there is a jewel of a peice of advice. Today, it was "Just let them make their own mistakes. You can't stop them; they'll learn. Just support them, and if there are bad consequences, you will be able to help them."
(Courtesy of Pandaberry, who speaks from experience.)

*endrant*

We were supposed to recite our script this afternoon, but the National Weather Service and the School System spazzed about TORNADO WARNING IN YOUR AREA so MAlly couldn' t perform for Mrs (teacherwedon'tyethaveanamefor). YAY! :)

Unfortunately, "DANGEROUS" WEATHER (I doubt TORNADOES in our county. Pfft.) means that there is no actual world news on. Weather monopoly on the television.

I'm using this time to NOT do my math homework, think, and work on making my desk area look like a tornado hit it. (Ha. pun. ish.)

:)
