THIS PAGE WAS IN DUTCH A SECOND AGO! WHATTHEEFF???
anyways I'M IN HOLLAND with my cousins & co. (mom & my obnoxious brother are here too XP)
we drove to Atlanta first and spent the night with AUNT SAMMY OF AWESOME before flying here sooo here's mostly everything so far
Starting with Atlanta:
We were greeted warmly by the infamous scoundrels of the Sharp household: Dinky, Darcey and Mo. Mom and I took a short trip to Chick-Fil-A to grab a bite to eat and after filling our rumbling stomachs with chicken and such, the four of us ran to Wal-Mart to pick up some last minute necessities (namely, underwear). Upon returning to the house, Aunt Sammy took me along with Monkeyface to the pool where we stayed until about 10:00. She then showed us the one leash that she has for her three dogs that is essentially one leash with three leads. We ended the night with some frozen strawberry popsicle-like treats. I would tell you the name but we’re sworn to secrecy. In the morning, Monkeyface, Mom and I made sure we had everything ready to go to the airport, and then joined Aunt Sammy at the pool for a short swim. At about noon, we scurried home and took showers so that we could be at the airport by 2:00. (I’m convinced that we made it there at the time we wanted to because we had Aunt Sammy-Mom would have had us there around 4)
The Atlanta airport was a zoo, yet it didn’t seem to take us too long to get our boarding passes and get through security. We found our gate and then had about 2 ½ hours to waste and we were not about to sit for that amount of time considering the fact that the length of our flight would be around 8 hours. We kept passing by soldiers, so we thanked a huge amount of them for their service to our country. Mom told them what heroes they are, and we took some pictures. Apparently there were about 300 of them who had been in the US for a 2 week break from being in Iraq and they were headed back. Monkeyface inquired as to how long their flight would be. It turned out to be a shocking 16 hours! Anyways, I’m convinced that we spent about an hour and 45 minutes (at least) walking around the airport trying not to sit down. We were a big success at the whole not sitting thing.
It was an incredibly long flight. Thankfully, it’s supposed to be easier flying back to the states. I only slept about an hour. Mom and Monkeyface slept a couple hours each. We finally landed in Amsterdam after sitting for 8 hours. I was very happy to see a bathroom that wasn’t thousands of feet in the air. Aunt Annette met us at the airport and brought us to the house of the Young Clan in Holland.
We arrived in Holland around 4:00am (NC time) which was about 10:00 where we were.
After saying our hellos, I took a short nap and then was rudely awoken by mom.
Me, Sharon, Mother Dear, and Aunt Annette rode bikes into town and had lunch at a place called “En Oranje” which was very tasty. Ever tried caramel tea? It’s amazing.
We explored for a while and went into a few little shops including the many different places that are spread out along the street with foods you would normally find in one place: your local grocery store. There is, in fact, a grocery store in Holland. However, there’s also a store for meat, a store for cheese, chicken, fruits and vegetables, desserts, etc.
We didn’t do much the rest of the day. More napping, mom and Monkeyface went with Uncle Brian on a bike ride to the beach, hanging out around the house, dinner, and watching The Tudors :D
At about midnight, Sharon and I went downstairs and ate strawberries with whipped cream…which actually turned into whipped cream with some strawberries.
We all finally showered this morning! Woohoo! I think I might have been the last one out of bed.
Once we all got out of the house, we went to see the WWII bunkers on the nudist beach. The only nudist was about 3. We then went on the tops of some dunes and had lunch, after which the boys played while everyone else napped. Scheveningen was our next stop. It was a pretty awesome place. We stopped at El Nino for some snackage and Sharon and I shared a mojito, some fried fish and french fries dipped in ketchup as well as mayo.
Apparently people live in the courthouse where Sharon’s school had prom this year. The building is AMAZING. We returned to Wassenaar and were lazy for a while. Dinner consisted of salmon, zucchini and artichoke. I made a cake for Uncle Brian for Father’s Day J but Sharon had to put on the icing because I failed at it. Sharon and I watched a bit more of The Tudors. This show is addicting.
We also found a tick on Chipper (their dog) and had a spazfest in the kitchen before flushing it down the toilet when we couldn’t find matches to burn it with.
